Student Club Fair
Headed by:
September 4, 2012
We hosted a booth at the student club fair to teach students about the club and why they should join.
Mole Hunt
Headed by: Avital Meiri, Rivky Gittleman
October 23, 2012
In honor of Mole Day (October 23rd), we planted small colored stuffed moles around the chemistry floor (fifth floor) for students to find. Whoever found the few special ones that had a special marking received a small prize.

We hosted a booth at the club fair for prospective students at SCW's open house.
Dr. Robert Peoples
Headed by:
November 29, 2012
For this "green chemistry" event, Dr. Robert Peoples, former head of the ACS Green Chemistry Society, spoke about the importance of practicing green chemistry in today's world. The event was cosponsored by the chemistry department and the environmental club.
Dr. Anthony Shaw
Headed by:
December 12, 2012
Girls from the chem club board went uptown and joined the YC chem club for a lecture on the chemistry of explosives by Dr. Anthony Shaw of the US Army Picatinny Arsenal. We also heard about Dr. Shaw's career and potential chemistry careers in the field.
"Biophysical Studies of the Antimicrobial Agent Daptomycin" talk by Dr. Evan Mintzer
Headed by: Eliana Trink, Elizabeth Goldberger
February 12, 2013
We paired up with the YC Chemistry Club to host a talk by Dr. Evan Mintzer, who teaches Organic Chemistry at SCW. He spoke about his research on Daptomycin. Sushi was served, and the talk taught us how chemistry can be used to understand how antibiotics work.
Chemistry of Dinner and Dessert
Headed by:
February 28, 2013
A group of students from the chem club visited Cooper Union for an ACS Younger Chemists Committee of New York event on the subject of food and flavor chemistry .
ACS Nichols Symposium
Headed by:
March 15, 2013
A couple of students from the chem club board joined faculty advisor, Dr. Estes, in attending the annual ACS Nichols symposium in White Plains, NY.
Community Interaction Grant Part I
Headed by:
April 5, 2015
Using funds from the ACS-approved community interaction grant, students on the chem club board visited Henrietta Szold Elementary School in Chinatown, New York and taught interactive chemistry lessons on the subject of the chemistry of textures. Experiments included making "silly putty" polymers and a "rainbow" of liquids of different densities.
Photography Alternative Processes Demonstration
Headed by: Elizabeth Goldberger
April 24, 2013
We joined the SCW Photography Club for an alternative processes demonstration at the Center for Alternative Photography. We had the chance to watch a wet plate process demonstration (more info about the process itself here: http://www.alternativephotography.com/wp/processes/wetplate/the-wetplate-collodion-process), a photographic process used before digital photography which uses different types of chemicals. We were able to see how how different exposures of certain chemicals to light can make pictures.
Community Interaction Grant Part II
Headed by:
May 3, 2013
Chem club members again visited the Henrietta Szold school with funds from the ACS community interaction grant and taught another interactive chemistry lesson to the students.
Spa Night
Headed by: Eliana Trink, Elizabeth Goldberger
May 8, 3013
In connection with our theme of chemistry and beauty, we joined with the SCW Environmental Club for a fun-filled evening of perfume making, face masques, manicures, bath salts, and more. This event was also a "green chemistry" event.
