CHEMISTRY AND SPACE: Faculty Advisors and Board Members
Dr. Evan Mintzer
Faculty Advisor |
Dr. Donald Estes
Faculty Advisor |
Loriel Solodokin President |
Loriel is currently a Senior at Stern College for Women, majoring in both Chemistry and Biology, and looks forward to pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical sciences. Loriel has a passion for swimming, knitting, playing the harp, and putting a smile on the faces of all who surround her. Her motto in life is based on Disney’s Cinderella, “Have faith in your dream and someday your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.” |
Juliet Meir Vice-President |
Julie is from Hollywood, Florida and is currently a Junior at Stern College for Women. She likes horseback riding, Tae Kwon Do, knitting, and tennis. Since tenth grade, she has loved chemistry and all it has to offer. She hopes that her love of chemistry only grows with time. |
Avigail Soloveichik Vice-President |
Avigail hails from Chicago, IL and Queens, NY, and is a proud fan of both the Cubs and the Mets. She likes to come up with questions, and her current debate is as to whether her favorite state is Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, or Colorado. Avigail’s favorite equation used to be the Arrhenius equation, but recently Schrodinger’s equation and the Nernst equation are providing tough competition. Avigail hopes to one day work for NASA; and, of course, she thinks chemistry is awesome! |
Becky Weiss Vice-President |
Born and raised in Queens, Becky is currently a Junior at Stern with a major in biochemistry. Orgo was one of Becky's favorite classes, and if you ever need to find her, the best place to look is in the organic chemistry lab. Her favorite pastime is creating a color-coded diagram of all the metabolic pathways on an 8 x 11" piece of paper. In addition to being a natural chemist in the kitchen, Becky enjoys ultimate Frisbee, softball, and crossword puzzles. |
Maayan Elyashiv Treasurer |
Maayan is a Sophomore at Stern. She is a member of the Chemistry Club, Soccer Team, and Student Council. She generally enjoys learning chemistry, but the labs scare her a bit. Her favorite allotrope of carbon is diamond. Maayan loves science and math epigrams, and she genuinely hopes that all students will enjoy science as much as she does. |
Jessica Gross Treasurer |
Jessica is a Junior at Stern majoring in Biochemistry. She has always loved swimming. Originally from Teaneck, she has now made herself a second home in the 5th floor chemistry labs, visiting nearly every day. Evidence of this can often be seen by the goggle marks that never quite disappear from her forehead. |
Eliana Shaul Secretary |
|
Tzippy Wiesenfeld Secretary |
One fateful morning in June 1989, the world stood still for a dramatic moment. Millions of people waited silently in Times Square, holding hands until they heard the news--Tzippy Wiesenfeld was born. Since then, it has been increasingly difficult to determine both the location and velocity of Tzippy, especially if she happens to be contaminated with coffee. Probability dictates that she may be found in Lawrence, where she lives; in the Stern chemistry lab; or at dental school interviews. Many a scientist has slaved day and night to solve the question of Tzippy's location vs. momentum if she were to be confined to a box. But all known mathematics fails to determine these two properties simultaneously. Like Goldbach's conjecture, Tzippy remains unsolvable. |
